Asbestos Testing

Are you concerned about whether you have asbestos present in your home? Before purchasing a home or undertaking a renovation project it is important to determine whether asbestos is within the building materials of your home.

Breathing in asbestos fibres puts you at risk of cancer and other diseases, such as: asbestosis (a scarring of the lungs, which makes it difficult to breathe), mesothelioma (a rare cancer of the lining of the chest or abdominal cavity) and lung cancer.

HOWEVER, typically there are no significant health risks if the materials containing asbestos in your home are:

  • tightly bound in products and are in good condition
  • sealed behind walls and floorboards
  • isolated in an attic
  • left undisturbed

Asbestos can be found in building materials such as:

  • cement and plaster
  • industrial furnaces and heating systems
  • building insulation
  • floor and ceiling tiles
  • house siding

We are trained, certified and experience collecting asbestos samples for laboratory analysis to determine level of asbestos present. Are you concerned about the presence of asbestos in a property? Let us help ensure your home and families healthy and sound by doing an asbestos assessment and testing.

The Canadian Government officially banned all products containing asbestos in 2003.

Asbestos was once promoted by the government to be used in building materials, as they offered a subsidy for for builders to use materials containing asbestos to help promote the industry.

Asbestos can be found in drywall, insulation, tile flooring, ceilings and more.

Typically asbestos is not a health threat unless it is disturbed.
